Granadillo

Platysmiscium Yucatanum

This wood is known in Guatemala as the “wood that sings”.Very close in tone to another Platysmiscium called Hormigo.

This wood is one that they make the famous Marimba. It has a lot of reddish peachy tones.

Sometimes it fools into thinking that it is Honduran Rosewood. It grows from Central Mexico down to Guatemala. It is a good cheaper alternative to the Rosewoods. Don’t let the price tag fool you. This wood is an exceptional tonewood. Eventually, as rosewoods become scarcer, this wood will probably be called upon to take its place.
