Among the many treasures that have crossed our saw, few compare to the day a close friend and respected figure in the luthier community brought us eight extraordinary sets of Brazilian Rosewood. These were not just any sets. The figure was so tightly flamed it almost looked unreal, like ribbons of light woven into the grain.
Cutting them was both a privilege and a responsibility. Each pass of the blade revealed depth and brilliance that would have been lost on a rougher cut. Out of gratitude for the precision of the work, he told me to choose whichever set I wanted from the eight. I chose carefully, knowing that each piece was irreplaceable. That set remains one of the highlights in the career of this machine and in my own journey with tonewood.

The beauty of that Brazilian was not only in the figure, but in how the machine allowed it to be revealed. Clean cuts meant the surface came out smooth, free of chatter or heavy sanding marks. From start to finish, the board lost just under a sixteenth of an inch in thickness. That might sound like a small detail, but to a luthier it makes all the difference.

It is the difference between a luthier seeing the true figure of the wood or having to fight through waves and deflection.
